[00:20] In this episode, Igor discusses the pivotal role of email in his multi-level marketing (MLM) journey, highlighting how email became the ultimate tool for audience-building and success in the MLM industry.
[01:47] Email Emerges Victorious Over Social Media Predictions:
- When I first ventured into the world of online business, there were talks circulating about the imminent demise of email.
- Facebook was on the rise, Twitter was making waves, and many believed these platforms would render email obsolete.
- Over the years, I’ve heard similar predictions for every new social media outlet, from Snapchat to Periscope. It’s as if with each new option for social interaction, the rumors of email’s decline resurface.
[02:15] The Turning Point in Communication:
- I began my journey during the era when instant messaging was becoming mainstream. People were transitioning from making phone calls to sending text messages.
- If you wanted to ask someone out, you’d text them and eagerly await their response, hoping they wouldn’t ignore you for days on end.
[03:18] Robert Kiyosaki’s Wake-Up Call:
- My entry into this digital landscape was through network marketing, a field that piqued my ambition but left my pockets empty. I lacked a solid business plan, funding, or entrepreneurial ideas.
- Running my own business felt like an unattainable dream, especially since I was still attending a community college with a military academy twist.
- Then, I stumbled upon a book that would alter my perspective dramatically – Robert Kiyosaki’s ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad.’ Reading that book was akin to taking the red pill in ‘The Matrix’; suddenly, everything looked different. I realized that the conventional path of going to school, getting a degree, and securing a job was a one-way ticket to a financial dead-end.
- Kiyosaki’s book offered an alternative for those without money, connections, or specialized skills: network marketing, or multi-level marketing (MLM). Intrigued by this notion, I decided to dive into MLM.
[04:15] Choosing MLM Over the Conventional Path:
- Instead of joining a well-known MLM company like Amway, which wasn’t prevalent in Israel at the time, I ventured online due to my strong interest in gaming.
- My online quest led me to a relatively obscure MLM called Global Domains International (GDI). Their pitch was simple – the internet was revolutionizing the world, and everyone would eventually need a website.
- GDI offered website hosting, a basic WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) website editor, and email addresses with a .ws extension. They promised to pay members $1 for each person they recruited.
- To cut a long story short, I faced numerous failures in MLM initially. However, these struggles revealed a key lesson: the successful individuals in MLM often had one thing in common – an audience. They could effortlessly tap into their existing audience, even if circumstances changed, such as a company shutdown or alterations to the compensation plan.
- A common practice among MLM leaders was to migrate their teams to a new organization. They’d send an email to their followers, explaining the transition and providing a link.
- Overnight, they’d have thousands of members in their downline, and success stories would follow. It became evident that having an audience was the linchpin of their achievements, and email emerged as the most effective tool for audience-building.
