[02:45] Moving to Puerto Rico for Tax Benefits:
- In 2015, I was living in San Diego, California, a place I loved for its weather and people but despised for its business climate. I had just paid seven tax figures for the third year in a row. I consulted my accountant to explore legal tax-reduction options that didn’t involve relocating to a tax-free state.
- Unfortunately, the only viable option was to move to a place without state taxes.
- Serendipitously, a photographer forwarded me an article about Puerto Rico becoming a tax haven. Moving there meant paying zero federal and state taxes, with only a flat 4% corporate tax.
- I decided to make the move, and that was seven years ago. I don’t plan to leave because keeping the money I earn has been a game-changer.
[03:20] Taxation Challenges:
- I made between three to five million dollars a year in net profit. The combined state and federal taxes in California amounted to 51% of my income.
[05:19] Moving to Puerto Rico and Culture Adaptation:
- Adapting was enjoyable. While there were cultural differences, Puerto Rico offered a comfortable lifestyle. I reside in Palmas Del Mar, a community filled with like-minded individuals who also moved to escape high taxes. The place is a paradise for kids, and they love it here.
- In the Caribbean, age seems to slow down when you’re not paying taxes.
[08:19] Military Discipline and Focus:
- Discipline was critical. It allowed me to focus on the right things, apply systems, and create processes to ensure nothing failed. I followed one course until success, just like in the military.
[10:25] Becoming an Entrepreneur and Providing Value:
- Understand that your goal should be adding value to the world, not just seeking success. Strive to create the number one solution to a real problem.
- I started with coaching, then expanded to masterminds, sponsorships, advertising, courses, books, and journals.
- My first coaching client, Andy Dervish, reached out, and I had to come up with coaching rates on the spot. That’s how my coaching journey began.
[19:29] Value of Podcasting:
- I launched a book called “The Common Path to Uncommon Success,” a roadmap based on insights from over 3500 interviews.
- Become a person of value, not just chasing success. Start adding value to the world earlier.
