Focus Versus Variety

Is chasing multiple opportunities, costing you more than it’s worth. Today, I’m diving into a common dilemma for entrepreneurs, spreading yourself thin versus focusing on just one area. I’ll share my experiences and why sometimes less really is more when it comes to building long term success. Let’s get into it.

You should not limit yourself to only one niche. However, with that, I will give you, you know, a caveat or at least another different perspective to it, which I think is very important, that is, it comes down to the issue of focus, because it’s easy in the world of affiliate marketing, the world of Efarming, the world of making money online, it’s so easy to get sucked into a whirlpool of shiny objects and all the different ways you can Make Money. And it’s still difficult. Even for me today, it’s still difficult to avoid getting into different ventures, especially knowing that, you know, the skill that I have, but there’s only so much time in a day.

There’s only so much energy you have in 24 hours. There’s only so many things you can do. So sometimes less is more. If you ever heard about a concept like that, where by choosing to focus on one area and going deeper into that area, you sometimes end up benefiting more than if you were to try and go and build like a gazillion simultaneous streams of income, just something to consider. Sometimes it depends on the sort of person you are, too. For instance, I remember I had like an acquaintance, not a friend, but an acquaintance, a guy who started his own car business, like his own car, you know, what do you call them? Basically, he was selling cars, but he also managed, at the same time, two other things, including day trading on the stock market, where he would go in and out of trades the same day, or every few days.

So I can’t do that. I generally cannot do that between my business, my family. I really can’t do day trading, too. I tried it, you know, when crypto was really hot, back in 2017, 18-ish, I tried doing the crypto day trading thing, and I burnt out so fast. But that guy, look, I’m pretty sure he’s got, like, ADHD or something, you know, and he can go into many different businesses all at the same time. I have another friend, pretty close friend, in the industry, and he’s like, a legit, serial millionaire affiliate marketer, like, one of, probably one of the smartest, and, you know, maybe not even the smartest, but one of the most efficient affiliate marketers I’ve ever met in my life. Like, genuinely, there’s only a few people that I really look up to in this industry, because once you kind of pull back the curtain, and most of them you can see, you know, you can see a guy standing on a stool with a hat and a cape, but this guy, so he’s not like that. He’s true. He’s a true, you know, legend. And he can do that like he can start seven different affiliate businesses in like one year, and scale all of them at the same time to beyond the million dollars.

I just don’t know people like that who can do that like I just don’t and I don’t have the personality. But when you hang out with them, and I got a chance to hang out with him a couple of years ago, I went to a mastermind that he was putting together, and he invited all of his top friends who, kind of you know, were in his inner circle. And for the first time, I got to go and be around him for four days, I was like, Oh, I see now. I see, he was different. He’s just different guys. He could, he could be ultra focused on one thing for like two hours, and then having zero buffer time switch to a totally different thing, and be focused on that thing for two hours and then having maybe a short break for launch. Then switch again to a different thing, then switch again to a different thing. And I swear, in those four days, he must have slept maybe three hours a day, like, I’m sure of it, because I’ve never, like, seen sit down or anything like that, he’s just made different. And it’s crazy.

It’s crazy, like looking at him, I kind of concluded that I just don’t have the biochemistry for something like that, you know. And I kind of stick to a routine where I go deeper rather than wider. So I’ve gotten pretty good over the years at going deeper into what I know and to what I know how to do, and then having from that kind of like a tree, right? So you kind of plant the seeds, the roots take place, and then it starts growing, growing, growing. And so all of a sudden you’ve got, like, different branches come out. So all of a sudden you got one thing you’re working on, but then it becomes, like 10 different income streams. That’s what I’m good at. That’s my strategy, and that’s why I don’t tend to jump very quickly from one thing to the next, or try to build five different businesses at the same time. In fact, over the years, I had to learn how to say no a lot, because it’s hard to say no, when you have the knowledge, have the skill set, have the resources to build stuff, but the time, the attention, the energy, that’s the limited resource, you can only do so much.
