Feel Good Money

There are some things when you know you make money, but then you’re a little bit embarrassed. But there are some things where people come back and actually thank you. Like thank you for introducing me to this guy. Thank you for, you know, recommending this software tool so, like all kinds of stuff like that, anything it makes you feel good and also makes you money. And there’s plenty of feel good money out there, plenty. And, you know, I just tend to gravitate towards that more often than not, like I could have easily gone into, you know, into feel bad money. And I could have gone and pushed stuff that I just don’t necessarily agree with or don’t want to, you know, don’t want to, like, see spread in the world. But that pays really well. I could have gone and promoted like casinos, which is basically legal theft and, you know, feeding on addiction.

And I know, by the way, I know people who build fortunes with that, like as affiliate marketers in the casino and gambling, or sports betting or, you know, etc. But I’m not, you know, I just don’t feel like doing it.  Anything basically, that results in people being very frustrated, I don’t like to do and so that’s what I’m talking about, like, about like, feel good money and feel bad money anytime over the years where I’ve noticed that I got a check for something, but I didn’t feel great about it, I never scaled that.

Plus, there’s also another aspect to it is, can you make money? Can you find a way to make money with something that actually gets you excited? So it’s not just about not feeling bad, but it’s also about, can you feel really, really excited about this very thing? So as soon as you wake up in the morning, are you being driven to go do it? And you know, for the most part, people make money with things that don’t excite them, the things that they might be good at, but not necessarily, things that they are absolutely in love with. For the most part, whatever they’re in love with is a hobby. But it’s only a lucky few in this universe that get to sort of have them both merge.

I love writing emails. I’d be writing emails and I’d be writing copy, probably even if I wasn’t getting, like, paid big money for it, because it just makes me feel good, almost like therapy. Anytime I feel bad, if I just sat down and wrote an email, by the time I’m done, I’m feeling much better. There’s also other ways where you can be miserable about taking people’s money. For example, I once tried doing a consulting day with somebody, and they paid me $15,000 and I had to spend six hours with them just consulting on their business. Obviously, I said, Yes. I mean, why would I say no to 15 grand for a day’s work? Right? Besides, it’s about marketing, which I love. But what I realized is that going to someone’s place of business and consulting them, and then having them ignore my advice and argue with me all, you know, the whole way, I did not enjoy taking that money.

So not only I didn’t say yes to any follow up consults and opportunities that I got offered and I get, I get these opportunities all the time, you know, having a list as big as mine, having a presence in the game. I always get, you know, proposals like that. I also get proposals for, like, equity in companies, in exchange for marketing advice and stuff like that. But what I realized is that, I don’t like being in a place like that, like at a certain place at certain times, because I’ve got, I’ve been told that I have to be there. So anything that makes me feel boxed, somehow limited, somehow that where I’m like, I have to, so the word I have to is like, I’m allergic to it, which is why I think I’m no longer employable.

Like, even if I lost everything tomorrow, going back to a day job is not even an option, and it’s like one of our primary values that I have is freedom, and I just don’t see myself taking money in a way that takes that freedom away from me. For example, I hate the commute. I grew up, I went to the Air Force Academy, right? I had to commute every day for about three hours. Then I had my jobs, my starter jobs, and I would always commute for at least 40 minutes each way. And the commute is just it’s present. So even if I was offered a job for, like, to make 10 million a year, but I had to drive downtown every day, I say no, and it’s not even. It’s not even should? Right now it’s like a no, because the commute ain’t gonna work for me.

It’s like knowing who you are, what you what you want, what you don’t want, and building lifestyle by design, so even if somebody’s offering you, like I had a company in the like a psychosomatic health space offer me about $100,000 to go build them a webinar file, and I didn’t take it because I knew that working with these guys is going to be just annoying, like having to convince them about everything step of the way trying to get the founder to shoot the content that I need them to shoot is just spending, like, time on the phone with them, like I hate the phone.
