[00:00] In this episode, Igor is joined by Kyle Kostecka to discuss the importance of numbers, staying humble, and building strong relationships within the industry.

[08:07] The Numbers Don’t Lie:

  • I always say that stats will tell the truth if you want them to. Numbers don’t lie, but statistics can be manipulated. Analytics is all about turning numbers into a narrative.

  • It’s fascinating how people can interpret the same data differently. Depending on how you look at the data, you can get different conclusions.

[09:00] Interpreting Analytics:

  • There are two key aspects to analytics. First, some people manipulate numbers to fit their narrative, which isn’t real analytics. It’s merely justifying personal biases.

  • Second, analytics can genuinely uncover valuable insights. It depends on understanding the utility of the analysis and why certain numbers matter. So, it’s crucial to determine which metrics are significant for your specific niche and situation.

  • For affiliates, metrics depend on various factors like traffic sources, vertical, and offer type. For instance, webinars may focus on opt-in rates and conversion, while supplement offers are concerned about average order value.

  • Media buyers often require a minimum CPA to even consider an offer. Core numbers to know usually include conversion rates, EPC (earnings per click), and average order value. However, the acceptable values can differ depending on your industry and traffic source.

  • It’s crucial to understand which metrics matter in your niche and what affiliates are looking for.

  • Don’t assume; ask them about their success criteria and document it. This way, you can be proactive and have a clear understanding of whether your offer performs well or not.

[18:20] The Significance of Relationships:

  • Relationships are even more critical than numbers. I’ve observed people promoting offers that seem questionable, and the only explanation is a strong relationship between the affiliate and the offer owner.

  • This happens all the time, where certain affiliates consistently support the same product launches or vendors, creating a kind of clique within the industry.

  • Relationships matter immensely, but they should be mutually beneficial, not one-sided. It’s not about leeching value from others but providing value too.

  • As you mentioned, the industry might seem vast, but it becomes surprisingly small and interconnected at the top. When you have a hot offer, everyone wants to connect with you, and that’s when relationship building becomes easier because you’re the hotshot.

[21:43] The Two Common Mistakes:

  • There are two common mistakes during this phase. First, some people get intimidated and hesitate to reach out to potential partners.

  • Second, early success can mislead entrepreneurs into thinking it’s guaranteed to happen again. They forget to appreciate and invest in the relationships that brought them initial success. It’s crucial to remain humble and realize that success may not be repeated.

  • If you achieve early success, treat it as if it might never happen again. Invest back into your business, build long-term assets, and nurture your relationships. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you don’t need relationships because you’ll always have a hot offer. That’s a mistake because the industry is full of examples where companies never replicated their initial success.

[32:13] Know Your Numbers:

  • It’s essential to know your numbers and be cautious about special affiliate deals. I’ve seen cases where companies gave large CPA commissions along with 100% commissions to affiliates, and it drained their cash reserves. They couldn’t pay their suppliers, and they had to shut down.

  • Success without a structured approach can be disastrous. So, always know if you can be profitable and avoid floating cash on hope and dreams. If a big affiliate insists on such a deal, it might not be worth it if it puts your business at risk.

[33:56] How To Build Relationships?

  • You often encounter similar barriers, such as imposter syndrome or thinking you’re too big of a deal to talk to anyone. But remember, every good relationship is built on value. Both sides should aim to provide value to each other.

  • If you want to build these relationships without anxiety, focus on providing value as soon as possible. Understand that everyone has a unique value to offer. Nobody knows everything or has all their needs met.

  • So, there’s always something you can bring to the table. For instance, even if you don’t have a vast affiliate network, you might be skilled at driving paid traffic, which can be incredibly valuable to an offer owner who doesn’t possess that skill.

  • Start by offering value. It could be something as simple as sharing a useful recipe. It doesn’t have to be directly related to your business. It’s about building a connection.

  • When you give value, you create goodwill and open the door for reciprocity. People naturally want to balance the scales in a relationship. If you’ve provided value, they’ll want to give back.

  • That’s when you can share your needs or what you’re looking for in the relationship. It all begins with leading with value and genuinely caring about the other person’s needs.
