I like personal branding because it allows you to stand out in a market that might be overcrowded with solutions that don’t stand out, so all of a sudden, your personality is what gets you to stand out. And I think that’s really powerful. I think, you know, like, I was always concerned, by the way, about being an Igor, right? Kind of being out there, visible, being an Igor. Now, it’s a, let’s face it, it’s a Ukrainian slash, Russian name, maybe Bulgaria. There’s a few Igors in Bulgaria, so I fit right in until I open my mouth and they can tell I’m not. I can’t talk the language.

But, you know, to the west, there’s not very many Igor. So in the industry, when people talk about Igor, there’s only one Igor, they, they talk about me specifically, and that played to my advantage, because I stood out right so I didn’t need to do any custom branding. But I was concerned about that. I was concerned about just my name kind of hurting my sales, because why would they buy from someone who’s named Igor? But it was all in my head anyway. But I do like the branding, especially if there’s a story behind it, like, if you’re like Joe the Plumber, why, you know, did you used to be a plumber? Did your friends call you the plumber in high school because you were wearing jeans very low, and they could see your butt crack.

You know, are you? Maybe you’re like an Italian playing on the whole Mario thing, right? Mario was like an Italian plumber character who basically went to slay the dragon. There has to be a story behind it, and you have to tell that story a lot. I think that’s what people don’t get about personal branding, is that they stop telling their personal branding story. But you have to be able to tell it, and you have to be willing to tell it over and over and over and over and over again until you’re sick of it, until the people who follow you for many years are sick of it. But you still have to keep telling you, you still have to keep saying you still have to. And the way you know that, is by looking at something like the Batman franchise. So the Batman franchise, anytime they make any movie, any Batman movie at all, there’s always reference back to the origin story.

And if I ask you, what’s the Batman origin story, at least 50% of you will write in the chat something to the tune of, oh, he was a little boy. His father and mother got mugged and shot, and he swore to instill fear in the hearts of all criminals. Right? We’ve all seen that, we’ve all read that, we’ve all read the comics. We’ve all seen the movies, but they keep retelling the damn story every single time, every movie, every single time. Why do they do that? Well, because without an origin story, Batman’s branding doesn’t work. There’s no reason for him to run around in a bat costume unless we know that the costume symbolizes the bats that he was very much afraid of when he was a kid. So if you do go the branding route, get ready to tell that story a lot. Have a story and tell that story a lot.
