Becoming One of the Internet Boys

A lot of people who try to get involved with online businesses, they often do it because they’re really curious and they can’t help it and they really want to get involved. But at the same time, they don’t really do anything as far as implementation goes because deep down they believe they just don’t fit in with that crowd. Now it’s a feeling I’m very familiar with. Because in high school, when I immigrated from Ukraine to Israel, which means I started my middle school and high school in Israel, like I came in, I still had a pretty bad accent when I spoke Hebrew. I wasn’t very comfortable, and I was also chubby. So there were many different ways that the local kids made fun of me. And, you know, I felt extremely isolated, which is what I think turned me into becoming an online gamer and spending a lot of time next to my computer playing video games.

Because online, my avatar so to speak, wasn’t visible like my physical presence, but rather whatever’s between my ears, and I was able to gain a kind of sense of belonging that way with other gamers. Fortunately, I was also able to form a team with my classmates as well, and then kind of build my social rep through the game as well. So it kind of worked out for me. But you see, when it comes to online marketing for many years for the first three years or so, I really kind of drifted about feeling that, you know, at the time when I was getting started, you know the guys like Frank Kern, Ryan Deiss, Perry Belcher, Russell Brunson. What’s his name? John Reese, Jeff Walker, Jeff Johnson. Quite a few of these guys were big. I mean, they’re big today, too. But back then they were really active and producing like something else every month, you know. And I followed them a lot. I watched a lot of their videos, I read lots of their articles, I subscribed to every email that they sent out and they obviously mailed daily.

And I was in awe of what they were doing and how they were doing it. And I felt they must have like, the most amazing “job” in the world. Although, of course, not a job. It’s a business. And I loved it. And I dreamed of maybe one day becoming kind of like them, which I ended up becoming. But for a while there, I did not feel like I belonged, I did not feel like I could be one of them. Like I could do what they do. It took some time to process and to really take on. And it was a gradual process, too. It wasn’t a process that happened overnight. It started happening as I started making a little bit of money, you know, then a little bit more money, a little bit more money a little bit more money, and was only after I hit about $10k per month and then I scaled that it was maybe I don’t know, maybe a year or two after that.

That my DNA is kind of like the fibers of my DNA truly sort of entangled with this concept that, you know what, I belong because all of a sudden when I hit that level, what I noticed is I stopped feeling like I belong with the people in my day to day life. Right? Meaning that the people I spoke to on the street and the grocery store at parties when I told him about what I do. And I told them about how much I make which in Israel, everybody will ask you that, you know, first thing, by the way. So I started to recognize that you know what, I’m not one of them anymore. I’m actually one of those. I’m one of them, I’m one of the internet boys.

And that was a tremendous experience. Because then if I was successful by then, you know, from that point, I became even more successful, I gave myself permission to become more successful by doing the things that I thought were reserved for the people that were the Internet people. And this concept of self permission is a big concept. Because we spoke a lot about this, we speak a lot about this in the Super funnel in the Middleman Method program, where people usually wait for permission, people usually wait for someone else to tell them they’re now allowed to be or to become.

And of course, this stems from the idea that we go to school, we do exams, we get grades, and if we’d get good grades, we get a piece of paper saying, Oh, you’re good now, and then we go to college. And then we go, you know, like, you know, the process, you know, most of you have been through this process, school, colleges, universities, anything, even at work, you know, they come to you IN your workplace, you stay quiet, they teach you what to do some time passes, they make you do qualification tests or exams, you get your experience, bit by bit, and then you get a piece of paper saying, Oh, you’ve qualified for level two, level three, now you get a 2% Raise, I always found funny how these jobs give 2% raises, that doesn’t even keep up with the rate of inflation.

Anyway, this idea that someone else is supposed to tell you that you are now allowed to be or to earn or to do, is a false idea that has been sold. And not necessarily, I don’t look at it as a conspiracy theory or anything, but it’s just the way the society and of the developing this idea got sold to us. And it’s not serving us when we want to go out and make the leap from employee to entrepreneur, because as an employee, you know, we’re always being told that we’re not allowed to do something until we’re being told we’re allowed to do something. But that moment never comes when you decide to become your own boss. There’s no moment when the internet will magically open the Golden Gate. And there’s going to be like, Oh, music coming out of it, and saying, You are now ready, you can now go make money. There’s not going to be anything like that, you learn on the job. I briefly mentioned this during today’s workshop earlier, that it’s really you learn on the job you learn through doing more than you learn through reading or watching.

So it’s something to be aware of, and it’s through the doing as a process, you will also find that you gain internal permission, you’ll start noticing beliefs, you start overcoming some beliefs. And you know, you’ll encounter what I call friction, internal friction with yourself where lots of moments will feel uncomfortable, and it will put your beliefs into question. So when you’ll still need to push through, but now it’s uncomfortable. So you recognize, Oh, I see that there’s like a belief clash happening here. 

So just a couple more, you know, just to let you know, because I’m a big believer that our beliefs conscious and subconscious dictate our thoughts, and our thoughts dictate our words and our actions and our actions dictate the results. So if our results are not there, you can usually track it back to a bad belief deep down, but it requires some introspection or kind of soul searching a little bit, you can usually track it back to a really bad belief that is an unproductive not that makes you a bad person. Usually you think it even makes you a good person, but it’s just counterproductive to you becoming successful right so you can be a good person but very unsuccessful and struggling. But you can also be a good person, successful and thriving.
