Giveaways may seem like a quick way to grow your list, but they often lead to overwhelmed, low-quality leads 🚫. In this episode, I share my experience with giveaways, why they don’t work, and why ad swaps are a much better strategy to build a strong, engaged email list 💡. Tune in to learn the smarter way to grow your list without the hassle 📈.
[01:14] The Problem with Giveaway Marketing:
- Giveaways used to be popular because they offered free stuff like books, software, and memberships.
- Visitors could get many free gifts by just signing up on the giveaway page.
- But when you signed up, your email was shared with everyone involved in the giveaway.
- This meant you ended up on many email lists and got flooded with messages from different marketers.
- With so many emails at once, it was hard to focus, and the whole experience became too much.
[03:07] Why Giveaways Aren’t the Best Way to Build Your List:
- A great, irresistible offer might stand out in a giveaway, but it’s rare and hard to pull off.
- Giveaways lead to building a list of overwhelmed people who won’t engage with your emails.
- Giveaways attract freebie seekers who aren’t interested in buying anything.
- Even with a large list, if people are only there for free stuff, you won’t make much money.
[04:28] Lessons Learned from Participating in Giveaways:
- Early on, I tried giveaways along with solo ads, thinking it would help me build my list faster.
- I promoted giveaways to my list, hoping it would create goodwill and bring in more subscribers.
- Instead, it resulted in a saturated list, with leads getting overwhelmed by too many emails from different marketers.
- After stopping giveaways, I didn’t see a drop in sales or engagement, proving it made no positive difference.
[06:10] Ad Swaps Are Better Than Giveaways:
- Don’t waste time on giveaways unless you can guarantee a small number of participants and no overlap in email lists.
- Ad swaps are a better option, where you exchange email promotions with others who have similar lists.
- With ad swaps, you promote their offer, and they promote yours, giving you both a boost.
- You can do ad swaps occasionally, like once a week or every other week, to get a free boost without spending money.
- Giveaways might bring in many subscribers, but they’re often low quality and don’t lead to more sales.
- Even if you gain a lot of subscribers from giveaways, you’ll just increase your email costs without seeing more profit.
