In this episode, I reveal the journey of writing my first published book 📘—why I scrapped my original draft, rewrote it from scratch in a coffee shop ☕, and how becoming an author changed everything. Hear how this book now connects me with my audience in ways I never imagined.
[01:25] How I Finally Published My First Book:
- I threw out my first draft of 32,000 words because it felt too dry and lifeless.
- I spent 13 days rewriting from scratch in a Toronto coffee shop, where the coffee kept me fueled.
- After producing hundreds of webinars and tons of content, it finally felt incredible to hold a real, printed book in my hands.
[02:28] My Reason for Writing the Book:
- I was already well-known in email marketing, with lots of content and a popular podcast featuring big names.
- I felt inspired by people like Tony Robbins, who each have a flagship book to share their story and message.
- Despite 100,000+ emails, webinars, and articles, I knew a book could reach new audiences.
- I wanted something simple to explain my work, especially for people I met in everyday life.
- Writing a book made my message clear and easy to share with anyone who picked it up.
- It’s been amazing—people who read the book first stay engaged, helping build a community of true fans.
[05:51] Being an Author Matters:
- Now, when my daughter talks about me, she proudly says, “My dad’s an author” instead of “He sends emails.”
- Introducing myself as a published author gives me an edge at events and JV mixers, making a stronger impression.
- While at mixers for authors, I sometimes skip mentioning the book and highlight my podcast instead to stand out.
- My book, even years later, still creates value and impact, showing the lasting power of being an author.
