[00:20] In this episode, Igor explores the challenges people face in finding soulmates later in life and even touches on the trend of seeking relationships with partners from different cultures.

[02:00] The Concept of Soulmates:

  • I don’t believe in soulmates, I do believe in company compatibility.

  • I believe that there are people with habits and personalities that fit really well together on every single level when it comes to relationships.

  • It’s often speculated that if I grew up in Ukraine and later relocated to the United States, I’d likely connect with someone from a similar cultural background, with shared values.

  • As an individual originally from Ukraine, raised in Israel, and now residing in Canada, I frequently witness immigrants pairing up with other immigrants. It’s as if there’s a pattern.

[04:25] Challenges in Finding a Soulmate Later in Life:

  • It’s about being it’s about finding people with similar or identical values that you get along with and preferably you do it when you’re younger. Preferably you would do it when you’re like in your early 20s, maybe late 20s When you’re still mentally agile.

  • Many people who go through divorce around the age of 40 or 50 struggle to find a soulmate in their later years.

  • This challenge arises because they have already solidified their habits, lifestyles, and worldviews.

  • They may lack the mental and emotional flexibility required to connect with someone new. Consequently, they perceive others as incompatible due to differing beliefs, habits, and perspectives on life situations.

[04:50] The New On-Demand Bride Trend:

  • This phenomenon partly explains why there’s a growing trend among individuals in their 40s and 50s, such as truck drivers, to seek relationships with individuals from different cultures, often through mail-order brides or international marriages.

  • They venture to societies where women are traditionally taught to adapt to their partners without expecting major changes.

  • While the ethics of this approach may vary, it underscores the idea that these men resist personal change and desire relationships where they can remain as they are.

  • Additionally, these men often choose younger partners who have yet to firmly establish their personalities and beliefs, allowing the older individuals to maintain their own identities.

  • To drive home this point, consider a particularly extreme case—an ex-KGB agent in his 50s with severe health issues. He openly admitted to his potential partner that he was prone to violence and would not change his ways.

  • Shockingly, this woman accepted this brutal honesty, acknowledging that physical abuse was likely in their relationship. Despite visible injuries, she remained committed to this partnership, perhaps driven by desperation or other motives. In this scenario, can we really speak of soulmates? The answer seems to lie elsewhere entirely.
