If affiliate marketing would be a get rich quick scheme, then so many big corporate legitimate companies wouldn’t be utilizing it so badly. Back in 2018, which is the last time I looked at a statistic like that. Affiliate marketing was responsible for 15% of all commerce. Think how much it is 15%. Now today, I bet it’s at least 30% of all commerce because more and more companies move online. And there’s been a massive surge in influencers who continuously get free merchandise from companies and advertise them. That’s also a form of affiliate marketing, by the way. So affiliate marketing is not a get rich, quick scheme. It’s an actual legitimate way to make money.

In the same way that becoming a “reseller” for an insurance company is a legitimate way to make money like I got a buddy, he makes money by selling insurance. That’s only like insurance, life insurance products or cars. No, he doesn’t. Literally every single insurance thing that he sells is like some other company Sunlife, Manulife whatever. It’s like all insurance brokers for me, and they make good money doing that. He’s a freelancer, and he makes commissions by sending you up for like a policy and he gets a premium. Now what is a premium? In other words, everybody, it’s an affiliate commission. So he gets a commission, if you sign for a policy. There you go. So no affiliate marketing is not a get rich quick scheme. It’s a legitimate way to make money. 

Now it’s just sold. Or it may seem to you like a get rich, quick scheme, because only the internet people are doing it. But the reality is that so many people are doing it, they just don’t call it that way. When was the last time you applied for a mortgage with a mortgage broker? What is a mortgage broker other than a glorified affiliate marketer for the bank, it could be working for a bank, as a mortgage broker, or it could be just a broker who can go to any bank. So when I came to Canada at the end of 2017, I decided to go investigate to buy a house probably a couple years later, until then I was renting.

So I, all of a sudden I’m in touch with like 10 different brokers, they will work with all the same banks, and it just depends what’s gonna get you a better deal more, they will offer bonuses, and they’re like, Well, I’m gonna get you this deal and this percentage and this and that. And I’m gonna give you a kickback of $5,000 because my commission is going to be 25 or whatever, 10. I’m going to give you a kickback. That’s a cash rebate, AKA a bonus for signing up with them and not through some other broker, which is exactly what we say that when you promote something, offer a bonus. Right? 

So what is the difference between the mortgage broker and someone like us? We don’t have to work for a bank, although there are plenty, plenty of credit card companies who will offer you a premium signup bonus for referring people to sign up for their credit cards, websites, such as NerdWallet, for example, that are entirely legitimate. They make a lot of money, but they’re entirely based. They’re all their business model on one thing, affiliate marketing because they’re all affiliated with credit card companies.

I’m sure there’s at least 20 other websites like that. There’s things specifically for life insurance, auto insurance, this insurance, that insurance. So affiliate marketing is actually a concept that’s existed for a long time. And it’s been brought online also, for a long time. Something that isn’t legitimate wouldn’t exist for like 20 years, because it’s 2023. Now, and I know people have been doing affiliate marketing since like the early 90s. The fact that you’ve heard about affiliate marketing this year doesn’t make this any less, you know, legitimate than something that you’ve known for the last 30 years. So it just depends on your awareness.
